Curriculum Night - 8/25 Curriculum Night is scheduled for Wednesday, August 25th. Please refer to the schedule below. Curriculum Night is a great opportunity for you to meet your child's classroom teacher and to get an overview of the classroom and curriculum for the year. This event is for parents, and we hope you can join us!
Back to School Bash - 8/27 This annual, outdoor PTA - sponsored get together will be held on Friday, August 27th. Please check out this flyer for details. Shield Testing Opt-In District 25 is planning to begin the SHIELD testing program on September 8, 2021 for the students who have opted in. To opt your child in to participate in SHIELD testing, fill out this form and turn it into our front office. The SHIELD Illinois saliva-based test -- developed by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) -- is able to detect COVID-19 and its variants in symptomatic, pre-symptomatic, and asymptomatic individuals. For more information in the form of a Q&A on the COVID-19 SHIELD test in our schools, click here. Here is one common question we are being asked: Can I opt my child in to be SHIELD tested for when they are a close contact, only, thus opting them out of being tested weekly? No, in order to guarantee a student's participation in the SHIELD testing program when they are a close contact, they must already be an opted-in participant. We are working with a 3rd party provider, and that provider needs time to get a student entered into the program. We cannot guarantee that someone could be entered on day 1, 3, 5, or 7 in order to test-to-stay. Traffic Volunteers Still Needed Your PTA needs you! If you or a friend or someone you know is interested in helping out with the traffic team (as of Monday, August 16th) we still need coverage in these slots:
Park District Hiring Supervisors for Before/After School Care The Arlington Heights Park District runs a before and after school student supervision program at all District 25 Elementary Schools called CAP (Children At Play) and they are in need of -- and currently hiring! -- CAP supervisors/activity leaders. Local high school and college students are welcome to apply. For details and to apply, you may click here. If you have any questions about the job, please email the AH Park District's CAP and Day Camp Supervisor, Katie Waszak ([email protected]). Please Pack Spare Masks Patton has limited masks to provide to students who break or lose the one they wear to school. Please keep a couple spare masks in your student's backpack. TIP: Many parents have found the use of mask straps very helpful to keep masks clean and on-hand! Where does my child line up after I drop them off in the morning? All morning Kindergarten and students in grades 1-5 line up on the blacktop on the west end of the building near the drop off lane. There will be signs posted with classroom teachers' names on them so your children know where to line up. For easy reference, first grade lines up closest to the drop off area, just beyond the black chain link fence. Following first grade is second, third, fourth, and lastly fifth grade. Morning Kindergarten students line up by the first entrance beyond bike racks. Afternoon kindergarten families drop off their children at the main entrance of the school at 12:45 pm. Classroom Snacks Classroom snacks are allowed for students in grades one through five, and are eaten at a time that is designated by the classroom teacher. In keeping with our school rule for the past few years, permissible snacks are fruits and vegetables in their own skin. If you have any questions, please contact our school nurse, Sarah Klancnik, [email protected] or 847-398-4288. District 25 Mask Guidelines Please refer to the guide below, which outlines the types of masks that students may wear while inside a District 25 school. In general, masks with vents, mesh, or gaiters are unacceptable as they do not provide adequate protection. Absences and Appointments There are two ways to let us know your child will miss part or all of a school day.
Crossing Guards Needed! Dear Patton Families, Please consider applying to be a crossing guard for our community. Patton needs crossing guards for W Maude Avenue and N Harvard Avenue (the exit of the Patton path). The hours are from 8:30 am - 9:00 am and 3:35 pm - 4:05 pm. These are paid positions, per hour. If interested, please apply here: www.sd25.org/Apply. Thank you! District 25 Administration Back To School Bash Below you will find information about the PTA sponsored outdoor event, the "Back to School Bash!" Thank you to the PTA for hosting this community favorite! In Case You Missed It From Last Week... All of the information below is repeat information from last week. There is no new information in this section, but if you missed it from last week, please read below. Supply Drop Off Supply Drop off will occur on August 18 from 2:40-3:20. To ease congestion in the building we are asking for families with the last names A-K to come from 2:40-3:00, and last names L-Z to come from 3:00-3:20. Once you drop off your supplies and say hello to your child's teacher please feel free to head outside to the blacktop area and connect with other families outdoors. Families should not stay in the classroom to label supplies. Classroom teachers can assist with the organization of supplies once school begins. If you are unable to attend supply drop off, please know that it is perfectly acceptable for your children to bring their supplies in over the first few days of school. Also, if you ordered supplies through the PTA, those supplies will be delivered to your child's classroom for you. Pick up and Drop Off Procedures On the first day of school, additional staff will be outside to greet your children so everyone knows where to line up prior to entering the building. Patton's Traffic Team will be on-site daily to help ensure cars line up properly and to help children exit from cars. We ask that you abide by their directions while picking up and dropping off as their top priority is student safety. School staff will begin supervising students at 8:50 am each morning out on the blacktop. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th Grade
Your help is needed to keep our drop-off line moving each morning.
Recess Masks are not required for students to be worn when they are outside at recess. Additionally, we will no longer be utilizing zones and students will be experiencing recess in a typical fashion. Lunch Shifts at Patton Patton will be returning to our "pre-pandemic" lunch shifts where students have twenty minute shifts to eat lunch. We have overflow seating for students who may need some additional time to eat their lunch. We realize that as students return to what will feel like a more typical lunchroom setting there will be an adjustment period. The times listed below are when students are eating lunch during the 12:10-1:10 time frame. When students are not eating lunch, they are outside at lunch recess. Students will be seated at every other seat at the lunch tables to allow for three feet of distance.
District 25 & RULER
Last school year our staff participated in RULER courses designed for personal and professional social and emotional development. By completing these interactive social and emotional learning courses, school staff developed a shared understanding of the necessary skills and tools to support successful RULER implementation. This school year staff will launch this very important social and emotional learning curriculum in our classrooms and schools. We will host parent sessions throughout the fall to help parents learn more about this important work! Save the date: We are excited to host Marc Brackett, Ph.D on August 17, at 7:30 PM. Please join this virtual parent session to learn more about social and emotional learning and the importance of integrating this work in our schools. MORE DETAILS AND ZOOM LINK COMING SOON! Marc Brackett, Ph.D., is the Founder and Director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and a Professor in the Child Study Center of Yale University. He is the lead developer of RULER, an evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning that has been adopted by nearly 2,000 pre-K through high schools across the United States and in other countries. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL). New Staff at Patton We are excited to welcome these six staff members to Patton. Each of them are coming to us with unique experiences and talents and we are so happy to have them join our community! Grade Level Teaching Teams

These emails are sent from the District Office to all District 25 families over the course of the day. You will receive separate emails if you have more than one child attending school in the District. Signing Students In or Out of School Should your child need to enter or leave school during the school day (including for lunch), we ask that you notify the teacher and Patton's office beforehand, via email or phone. When you arrive at school, you will need to sign your child in - or out - using the QR code posted on the doors OR the ONLINE FORM. Students are required to be signed in if they arrive at 9:05 or later. The form can only be filled out when you arrive to pick up/drop off your child. The form "time stamps" your entry and filling it out too soon provides inaccurate attendance information. If you fill out the form before picking up your child, the office will request you to fill it out again so the time accurately reflects when your child was picked up or dropped off. Band Opportunities at Patton Most students in D25 begin their band experience in fifth grade. There are many instruments from which students may choose. There is no requirement for previous musical experience for most instruments, but if a student wishes to learn percussion (drums, mallets, bells, etc.), there is a requirement that the student have 2 years of formal piano lessons. More information about this and all the instruments offered in fifth grade and beyond may be found here: Elementary Band Information Attention FIFTH graders - if you didn't participate in band this year, but you'd like to in sixth grade at Thomas, there will be an opportunity for you to join! This isn't something that is usually offered, but with all the covid crazy of this school year, the band department is opening up a beginning instrument class to sixth graders in the fall. More information and sign-ups for this will take place in August. Please reach out to Miss Horton with questions.
