Hello Patton Families,
I hope this has been a great week for you and your families. There were so many fun and exciting things happening this week. Our first graders did an awesome job performing "SWAMPED!" for the students and their families, and we are all really proud of them! Hopefully we will see many of you at the Art Show next week as well as Capannari's on Wednesday. It will be a busy week for sure! Enjoy the beautiful weather and the weekend, Eric Larson
Poem in Your Pocket Day
We had a wonderful day on Thursday as it was "Poem in Your Pocket Day." Check out the video below highlighting some of the fun that we had this day.
Pick Up and Drop Off Traffic
Over the past few weeks we have received some phone calls from our Patton neighbors about the traffic along the streets nearby during pick up and drop off time. We realize that there are no designated spaces to park your vehicles along the street, but our neighbors have given us some feedback that their driveways are being blocked. We are asking all of our families to be mindful and leave the spaces at the end of our neighbors' driveways open when coming to pick up or drop off your children. Thank you for your help in maintaining good relationships with our neighbors.
Art Show Reminder
Just a reminder that the Art Show is on Tuesday beginning at 6:30. Because of the amount of artwork that will be on display and the amount of families we are anticipating, we are extending the art show to 8:00. If you do not wish to purchase your child's framed art, it will be returned to your child to bring home at a later date unframed. For those purchasing, please bring exact change or write a check to Patton Elementary School for $25. We look forward to seeing you at the show.
Yearbook Order Deadline Approaching
The deadline to order a 2016yearbook is Wednesday, April 27 by the end of the day. Simply go to www.treering.com and login to your account (or create one if you do not have one yet). The passcode for Patton School to order the yearbook is 1014110707661184. If you have questions, please direct them to [email protected]
Parent Feedback on Class Placement
Last week in the weekend update, there was an opportunity to provide feedback related to your child as we are going to begin the placement process for 2016-17 in the upcoming weeks. Teachers have been instructed to defer any placement requests directly to me (Eric Larson) as I am the one who has the final say in the process. Please do not contact teachers for special requests as that puts unnecessary pressure on them and can sometimes create uncomfortable situations. We do our very best to consider all aspects of our students when it comes to placement, and it is a very involved and purposeful process. If you would like to fill out the Parent Feedback Form, the deadline is Friday, April 29.
Just Move It! Success
Thank you to everyone who participated in or volunteered for the Just Move It! Challenge last weekend! There were a total of 953 participants from throughout the district. And while we unfortunately were not the winning school for the percentage of participants, we did come in 3rd with 21%. However, we were the top school for staff participation at 35% - way to go! Looking forward to seeing all of you (and more) at next year's event.

Hello Patton Community, I hope you and your children had a great week. We have officially completed the first week of PARCC testing and will conclude the testing next Tuesday. We will have make up testing scheduled during the days that follow for those who were absent. I hope you have an opportunity to get outside and be with your family this weekend. We have a few updates and flyers for you below. Have a wonderful weekend. Sincerely, Eric Larson First Grade Getting Swamped! The swamp is all a-buzz with party preparations galore...the frogs have learned a new dance they want to share. The tadpoles are growing appendages (yikes!) and the dragonfly larvae need encouragement to spread their wings and fly. Naturally, the turtles are running late! Families are welcome to attend the performance: Wednesday, April 20 7:00 - 8:30 PM
5th Graders - Sign Up for “Rockin’ With The Cops” Before May 2nd The Arlington Heights Police Department’s annual pool party “Rockin’ With The Cops” is scheduled for Thursday, June 9th at a new location - Frontier Park. This fun event runs from 7-10 PM, but only the first 250 applications will be accepted! Applications will be available soon at www.vah.com, and must be submitted prior to May 2nd. Take a look at the flyer here, and get your applications in! PATTON ART SHOW - SAVE THE DATE, APRIL 26! Patton is holding its very own school-wide Art Show on Tuesday, April 26, beginning at 6:30pm. Each student will have one piece of art framed and on display in the Commons area for the evening, and we will have some fun activities to do as well! The cost of the artwork is $25, however, if you do not want to purchase the artwork, your child will be able to have the work back unframed, and there is no cost to you for that. We hope the students and all of you enjoy seeing the artwork on display for Patton's first all school art show! 2016-17 Class Placement Feedback Form - Parents If you click here, you will find a form that you can fill out should you like to provide the school with any information you feel would be important as we consider placement for your child. Please know that the placement process for all of the Patton students is extensive and well thought out. To that end, it is important to understand that requests for a specific teacher will not be considered, as allowing parents to request teachers puts a significant strain on an already extensive process. All staff members are committed to providing the best education for your children. This form is to be completed by Friday, April 29, 2016. FLYERS

PARCC Students in grades 3 through 5 will be participating in the PARCC (Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) Assessment. The PARCC assessments identify students' current performance, point the way to what students need to learn to be ready for the next grade level and, by high school graduation, for college and/or a career. PARCC will be administered as a paper-based assessment in grades 3 through 5 and we will begin our assessments on Monday. Hello Patton Community, I hope everyone had a great spring break vacation. I know for me the time to just be with my family is very restorative. We are only four days in, but we jumped right back into school with both feet and there are a lot of things coming up. Please be sure to be checking the Patton calendar for our upcoming events. Patton's testing sessions will begin on Monday, April 11 and will continue through Tuesday, April 19 for grades three through five with one test being given on each day. Labels for Education - A BIG Thank You! Campbell's is winding down this program, which is discontinuing at the end of this year due to declining participation. The good news for Patton is we "cashed in" all the proofs of purchase handed in by parents and staff and requested a large variety of items that will be used by our students in art, music, and PE classes, as well as at recess. We just received a large variety of playground balls, crayons, markers and sidewalk chalk, a parachute, pedometers as well as hand and desk bells! So thanks to everyone who contributed labels, they really paid off! FLYERS
