Good Evening Parents, Today your children were treated to a fantastic assembly that was put on by our PTA Cultural Arts Committee. Students got a taste of a lot of important science concepts. For some of our students the material was new, and for others it was reinforcement. Below is a video of Mr. Morkert becoming a human gyroscope if you want to see a little of what your children saw. To our PTA volunteers, thank you for your help and support at the school. You are truly a valued partner at Patton! Sincerely, Eric Larson Good Afternoon Parents of 3rd-5th Grade Students.
I wanted to share an opportunity for your children. Below is an excerpt from the S.I.T. website as well as the flier for the conference in Buffalo Grove. On a personal note, I used to teach at Aptakisic Junior High where the conference is being held. They run a really great program and it is only about 15 minutes away. Please take a look and see if your child might be interested. Click here for a link to the S.I.T. website. Excerpt take from the S.I.T. site. The Students Involved with Technology Conference is an annual conference occurring at several sites throughout Illinois. It originated in Bloomington-Normal and has since expanded. It is a conference for 3rd-12th grade students. So what makes the SIT Conference stand out? It is also completely presented by 3rd-12th grade students. While adult volunteers from local schools and the community help the day run smoothly, all presentations are prepared and presented by the students! Have a great afternoon! Eric Larson | Principal, Patton Elementary School Good Afternoon Patton Community, I hope all of you have had a great week. To those who joined us for Spectacular Specials Night, we hope you had a wonderful time. With parent/teacher conferences coming up in the very near future, I wanted to share an article from the Huffington Post about how have a meaningful conference. Please click here for the article. Students also had a great experience at our Veterans' Day Assembly. Our veterans were so touched by the kindness of our students. To read more about the assembly, click here. Kindness Below is a video that was very popular a few years ago. For educators who seek professional development in social media, many have noticed that there has been a big push and emphasis on the concept of kindness. Below is a moving video called the Kindness Boomerang. The video is about 5-6 minutes long and it never hurts to have conversations about being kind with one another with our children. Don't Forget Your Coat! And Hat, and Mittens... Winter has arrived; please have your child dress appropriately for the colder weather, including hats, gloves and boots when necessary. Students will go out daily all winter long unless the temperature or wind chill dip below zero degrees. Students Involved with Technology Conference -- February 21st Idelle Melamed (LMC) and Jennifer Leigh (3rd grade) will be volunteering at this student run technology conference on Saturday, February 21. They encourage Patton students (3rd through 5th grade) to participate and would be happy to help any interested students with their presentations. For more information, please see the link below and you may also contact Mrs. Melamed or Ms. Leigh. http://www.sitconference.org/ Have a great weekend everyone. Patton School General PTA Minutes -- November 11th, 2014 The meeting was called to order by Bob Corley & Jenny Stanhope at 7:34 p.m.A moment of silence was observed in honor of Veterans Day. Superintendent’s Report: Dr. Lori Bein
Hi Everyone, I hope your children enjoyed our Veterans' Day Assembly today. This was quite a wonderful and powerful experience. In attendance we had 20 local Veterans, General Mukoyama, as well as members of the vocal group, The Arlingtones. Students were treated to the singing of the National Anthem, and a Veterans' Day message from General Mukoyama. After his message, students were given an opportunity to ask him questions (and the students did a fantastic job). What occurred next was my favorite part. The Arlingtones sang America the Beautiful and while they were singing, students presented the Veterans with cards and letters they had been written in class. Normally, I find myself monitoring the students, however, at this point the Veterans caught my eye. Students were done distributing letters while America the Beautiful was still being sung. The beauty of this moment, was that it was all about the Veterans, as they were reading the handful of letters they had received in front of the students. This truly had an impact on each of them as they all expressed their appreciation for the letters at the conclusion of the assembly. I know the Veterans all felt blessed in that moment, and I hope the students were touched as well. Have a wonderful evening, Eric Larson | Principal, Patton Elementary School PS - The district was kind enough to video the event for us. When the video becomes available we will send out a link if you'd like to view it. Veterans Day On Tuesday, students will be treated to an assembly where they will meet and hear from 2 star, Major General Mukoyama. In addition we will have the Arlingtones here to sing the national anthem, as well as several local veterans to honor. We hope to make this a special day for our students and our Veteran guests. Please have your students wear RED, WHITE, or BLUE on Tuesday. If you'd like to learn more about General Mukoyama, please click here. Spectacular Specials Night Spectacular Specials Night is Thursday, November 13! Please join us to experience the specials at Patton. Here is the link to sign up: http://goo.gl/forms/gxQw4F0qf8 4th Grade Families! Remember to have your child at school by 8:30 on Monday so they do not miss the 8:45 bus for the field trip! Nonfiction November - The Facts are Here! Perhaps your student has mentioned that in the last week of October mysterious signs were posted around school warning "The Facts are Coming." Well, they are here - in the form of a contest to see which grade will read the most Information books and submit the most interesting, amazing, surprising or awesome facts, during the month of November. The fact form the students use is attached here, in case you want to print it and work on a fact with your student at home. The fact forms are posted outside the LMC, by grade, and already the facts (the learning) is growing! Watch for an update next week!

PTA Meeting - Tuesday, November 11th We invite you to join us for our November PTA Meeting next Tuesday at 7:30 pm in the Commons. District 25 Superintendent, Dr. Lori Bein, will be at the meeting to meet Patton parents and answer questions. We look forward to seeing you! New Opportunity: Art Awareness Chair PTA is looking for a new chair for our important Art Awareness Committee. Art Awareness Volunteers present four pieces of art throughout the year that directly link to each grade level’s curriculum. The chair of this committee meets with all classroom presentation volunteers at the beginning of the program to give an overview of the Art Awareness presentation process, coordinates the volunteer schedule, distributes the lessons to the volunteers, and helps answer questions throughout the year. If you have enjoyed serving as an Art Awareness volunteer in the past and are interested in taking a leadership role this year, please contact Jenny Stanhope ([email protected]) or Bob Corley ([email protected]) for more information. We need a new chair to keep this important program going! Traffic Team Openings The traffic team is looking to fill the following spots to help ensure we have enough parent/guardian volunteers to make our arrival and dismissal times as safe as possible. If you have ANY extra time on Monday/Thursday/Friday mornings or Monday/Wednesday/Friday afternoons for the main lot OR Tuesday through Friday afternoons on the 1st grade side, please consider giving just 20 minutes of your time on any one of those days/times. Our small but mighty team has volunteers on multiple shifts and we would like to alleviate some of the pressure on all of our team members. If you are interested, contact Krin Hupp at [email protected] or by text at (847) 544-9485. Thanks! NEW! Track your Volunteer Hours at Patton Patton is lucky to have so many parent volunteers.
