Japan Visitors On Monday we had student visitors from Shitara, Japan join us at Patton. Our Japanese guests were treated to an international game of Scooter Ball with Mr. Dolniak and Mrs. Cioni's class, and then an art activity with Mrs. Maloney and Mrs. Copersmet's class. Following that, student council members had an opportunity to have lunch with our new friends. Each year, students from Shitara come to Arlington Heights, participate in home stays with District 25 families. In June, students from District 25 have the opportunity to go to Japan for a similar experience. Patton Senior Walk On Thursday, Hersey graduates who attended Patton had an opportunity to walk the halls as Patton students cheered them on in our second annual Senior Walk. Nearly 50 high school graduates took a couple laps around the hallways, which was truly a remarkable experience. Mary Poppins Our fifth grade blue and white casts gave outstanding performances in the production of Mary Poppins. Kudos to the fifth grade team and Mr. Whitaker for all of their hard work in putting this amazing production together. And thank you to all of the parents who contributed to the success of event as well. It truly could not have been done without everyone working together! Lost Items Hoping To Be Found We have quite a few items that have been lost. Please be sure to stop if you think your child might have left something behind at school as there are quite a few items that will be donated at the end of the school year. Lockdown Drill - Friday On Friday, we practiced a lockdown drill during the lunch hour, and your children did an amazing job. We want your children to be prepared in any setting, at any time. We are certainly not trying to scare them, simply prepare them, and the staff for any situation that might come our way. Friday was a great example of how the students and staff came together and did just a magnificent job. Outside at lunch recess, first, third, and fifth grade students were to practice leaving the property and begin heading to our relocation site. In this scenario, they began the walking as if to head to a relocation sit, but quickly circled back around to head back to school. Older students were incredibly kind, and were observed holding the hands of younger students to help comfort them if they were uncertain of where to go or simply needed some encouragement if they were feeling nervous. Second and fourth grade students had their lunch interrupted and needed to quickly lockdown to various locations around the commons. As with any drill, we are constantly evaluating our practices and making adjustments along the way. You should be very proud of how your children did. 2018-19 Class Placement Feedback Form - Parents If you click here, you will find a form that you can fill out should you like to provide the school with any information you feel would be important as we consider placement for your child. Please know that the placement process for all of the Patton students is extensive and well thought out. Teachers have been instructed to defer any placement requests directly to me (Eric Larson) as I am the one who has the final say in the process. Please do not contact teachers for special requests as that puts unnecessary pressure on them and can often create uncomfortable situations. It is also important to understand that requests for a specific teacher will not be considered, as allowing parents to request teachers puts a significant strain on an already extensive process. All staff members are committed to providing the best education for your children. This form is to be completed by Friday, May 11, 2018, by 4:00pm. Recognize a Teacher At Patton we encourage our students to live the "The Patton Way." Our teachers and staff strive to be an example for our students on a daily basis. If you would like to recognize a teacher for his/her efforts, please fill out this form and we will pass on the good news to them. Thank you in advance for sending an encouraging word.
