PERSONALIZED LEARNING - FROM MISS MAK
Personalized Learning experiences are student-driven, process-centered opportunities for students to explore their own interests. Students identify challenges, problems, or questions they would like to explore. They plan, manage, and reflect upon their learning throughout the process. Students will think independently, interdependently, take risks, and learn from their attempts. Personalized Learning experiences are designed to help students build 21st century skills including communication, collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity/innovation. In Personalized Learning experiences, students practice the skills of questioning, documenting & reflecting, planning, giving & receiving feedback, and self-assessing. Students will be at different levels for each of these skills, but it is our goal to get students to be doing these more often throughout the school year and to get better at each of these pieces. All students in grades 3-5 have practiced these skills throughout the school year. (Training will extend to teachers in K-2 next year!) All students in grades 3-5 have either completed a Personalized Learning experience or are in the process of doing so right now. Please ask your child what he or she is exploring! In the attached video, you will find more information about this philosophy. In addition, you will find interviews of students from Patton who have gone through the process. Enjoy!
