Hello Everyone, Below you will find the video from our K-1 Literacy Night. For those who missed it, or would like to see a portion of it again, we hope you find this useful. Veterans Day I'd like to introduce you to Major General James Mukoyama Jr. He was commissioned as a Regular Army Infantry Second Lieutenant in 1965 upon graduation from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature. He received his Master’s degree in the Teaching of Social Studies also from the University of Illinois in 1966. During his five years on active duty, General Mukoyama served as a platoon leader in the demilitarized zone in the Republic of Korea and as an infantry company commander in the 9th Division in Vietnam. He was the youngest General Officer in the entire United States Army in 1987 and subsequently the youngest Major General three years later. In 1989, he became the first Asian-American in the history of the United States to command an Army division. Among General Mukoyama’s decorations and badges are the Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, 3 Bronze Stars, Purple Heart, Parachutist Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, and Combat Infantryman’s Badge. General Mukoyama will be coming to Patton on Veteran's Day at 2pm, dressed in full uniform. He will spend time with our fourth and fifth graders at 2pm, and then he will meet with kindergarten through third grade at 3pm. General Mukoyama will speak with the students about Veterans Day and his military experience. There will be an opportunity for students to ask him some questions. WE NEED YOUR HELP If you know of a local veteran in the area, would you please contact Mrs. Ryl ([email protected]) or Mrs. Schmit ([email protected]) in the office (847-398-4288) so we can formally invite the veterans to attend our assembly? We would like to honor and thank them for their service to our country. Please let me know if you have any questions. We are very excited at Patton about this opportunity for our students! If you are not on Twitter, I would encourage you to check it out, and you can begin by simply following the school @AHSD25Patton. Many of the teachers have begun using Twitter. Good Afternoon Patton Community, This has been another great week at Patton. For those who might be wondering what happens in school on an institute day or school improvement day, I thought I might share a snapshot of what happened today. Over the past several weeks, each of your children have taken a variety of assessments depending on their grade level. Examples of these assessments are MAP (Measure of Academic Progress), AIMSweb, and Fountas and Pinnell benchmark assessments. With all of that data, we organize and sort it to determine how we can best meet the learning needs of our students. Grade levels spend considerable time pouring over this data to develop interventions and supports for students who might need a "boost" because they haven't met the academic targets at this point. Additionally, if we have students who are significantly exceeding standards (99%ile range) we can identify strategies to support them too. In addition to that, teachers at Patton also received training in the area of technology. Depending on the grade level teachers will have received training on some of the following areas: Google Classrooms, creations apps for iPads, how to use AirServer, student blogging tools, digital assessment tools, etc. In addition to that, grade level teams are also given time to collaborate and co-plan on their upcoming units of student. Truly, the work, time, and effort that goes into this day is significant and time well spent. Listed below are the PTA weekend updates as well. If you like pizza, and there is a great fundraiser for California Pizza Kitchen for October 13 and 14. You need to bring the flyer that was sent home, but if you don't have it, you can click HERE for it. Have a wonderful weekend, and we will see everyone on TUESDAY. Hello Patton Community! I hope everyone had a great week. There are several updates listed below for you to read through. I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Picture Day - Monday, 10.06.14 Just as a reminder, picture day is on Monday! We look forward to seeing many bright smiles! MAP/ISAT Data On Thursday, individualized MAP & ISAT will be sent home via backpacks. If you would prefer to pick up your child's information in lieu of going home in the backpack, you will need to contact the office in advance and they will pull your child's information. The paperwork will be available for pickup only on Thursday. Transitions Group - From Mrs. Donahue. . . At Patton School, one of the services we offer is a group experience for children whose families are currently in transition. These transitions may include separation, divorce, remarriage, or stepfamily situations. The groups will begin in the coming weeks, meeting once a week for approximately eight to ten sessions. Each session will last about half an hour. We will be working with classroom teachers in order to determine the best time to excuse your child from class. In the past, these group meetings have been helpful to children by providing them with a safe place to exchange feelings and experiences with peers in similar family situations. That way, group members can give each other support, suggestions, and encouragement. If your child(ren) are interested in this group, please sign and return the form below next week. The school office or your child’s teacher will forward the signed permission slips to me. If you have any questions or you would like to discuss the group further, please feel free to contact Mrs. Donahue at (847) 398-4288, or [email protected]
