Hello Patton Community, This has been a truly amazing first week back from school filled with excitement, anticipation, and a little bit of rain. Students have been engaged in a variety of activities, and we are off to a great start of a new school year. Below you will find some information about upcoming events and some of the things that are happening at Patton. Each week I'll try to give you a window into what is happening at school. We had a back to school assembly where we reviewed "The Patton Way" and the students sang the school song. It was so touching and inspiring to hear them. CURRICULUM NIGHT - WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2014 - 6:30 - 8:30pm We are looking forward to having you join us for Curriculum Night. Similar to past years, we are staggering the times that you can visit the various classrooms in the building. This will allow for less congestion throughout the hallways and make it easier for parents to visit more than one classroom if they have more than one child at Patton.
RAPTOR VISITOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM When visitors and volunteers enter the building, they will need to present a government ID to have it scanned into the Raptor System. IDs only need to be scanned one time as the data is stored in the system. According to Raptor, "Raptor will check the database every single time someone comes to the school, even if they are return visitors. Our offender database is updated on a weekly basis, so if they visited before and were not an offender, then became an offender and tried to enter one of your campuses you will be notified." Thank you to everyone for being patient through this process. TRAFFIC & CROSSING THE STREET Please remind your children to stay behind the yellow lines and to wait for the direction of the crossing guards. Additionally, if you are picking up your child, please remember to refrain from using your cell phone in the school zones, and please be aware of the areas along the street where you are not allowed to park your car. (We just don't want anyone getting any tickets!) BREAKFAST IS SERVED Breakfast is available to through food services beginning at 8:35am for those interested in purchasing breakfast. 1st Grade LMC Scavenger Hunt Using QR Codes PICTURES FROM THE FIRST FEW DAYS... Good Afternoon Patton Families, Today was a great first day back to school! I hope your children had a wonderful day. The weather didn't cooperate with us for recess at lunch, so students received a crash course on indoor recess. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for tomorrow during lunch and everyone will be able to go outside. Our LMC team put together a quick Opening Day Video for you, and there are a few pictures posted below as well. Have a great week! Eric Good Evening Patton Families, I don't know about you, but I'm still finding it difficult to believe that school is beginning on Monday. The staff has been busy spending the last three days preparing for the arrival of your children, and I trust that they will have a wonderful first day of school! SNACKS Patton Elementary School is moving toward healthy snacks for students, particularly fruits and vegetables in their own skin. We want to promote health and wellness within our school in addition to providing a safe environment for all of our students. Additionally, food allergies are on the rise with our children, not just at Patton but nationwide. The national average for children impacted by allergies is approximately 8%. We want our school to be a safe place for all to learn. RAPTOR VISITOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM Please see the letter below from Dr. Bein regarding the new visitor management system that will be used at all schools. KINDERGARTEN PARENT WELCOME The PTA is sponsoring a parent welcome gathering in the LMC for AM and PM kindergarten families. The AM gathering is from 9:05 to 10:05, and the PM gathering is from 12:55 to 1:55. PTA At the bottom of this post is the PTA welcome back letter that was published a few weeks ago. The second page of the the letter highlights the drop off and pick up procedures. If you have not joined the PTA, I would encourage you to consider it. Patton is blessed with a wonderful PTA and they are always looking for additional help. We are very much looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday. Have a fantastic weekend! SCHOOL SUPPLIES With regard to school supplies, we had originally stated to not bring school supplies. WIth the delivery of the PTA supplies happening today, and teacher's being able to have adequate access to organize their room, we are now saying that you CAN bring in your supplies Wednesday afternoon. Sincerely, Eric Larson Principal, Patton Elementary School Dear Patton Families, I want to officially welcome you to the 2014-2015 school year! It is hard to believe that the beginning of school is right around the corner! For me personally, summer always seems to fly by, but at the same time, there are often fun memories to reflect upon. It is truly my privilege to serve as your principal, and to work alongside a truly dedicated staff. Below you will find some updates and pertinent information leading up to the first day of school. Class Placement Letters Placement letters from all District 25 elementary schools are scheduled to be mailed from Central Office on Monday, August 18. You should expect your letter to arrive within a few days from Monday. The teachers are very eager and excited to meet and work with you and your children throughout the school year. New Staff at Patton We are very excited to welcome the staff members listed below to Patton. Each of them have unique experiences and talents and we are thrilled to have them at Patton. Mrs. Weber - Special Education Teacher Mrs. Heiniger - School Psychologist Ms. Ricci - 4th Grade Teacher Ms. Wawronowicz - ELL Teacher PTA Patton has been blessed with a phenomenal PTA. I’ve had the opportunity to meet many members of the PTA, and I am very excited about the level of involvement and dedication that we have from our parents. If you are not currently involved with the PTA, I would encourage you to contact them to see what opportunities are available. Please see the attached letter for more information about the PTA. Construction at Patton Patton has undergone several major projects including the roof, asbestos abatement, flooring throughout the building, and various renovation projects. I would like to commend our custodial staff for the tremendous job they have done this summer. The custodial staff continues to work tirelessly so the building is in top condition on the first day of school. Visiting the Classroom On August 20, from 3:30-4:00 we are opening up the school if you and your children would like to see your child’s classroom. Please refrain from bringing in school supplies on this day. The goal for this visit is so your child can see his/her classroom prior to the first day of school. Additionally, please know that the teachers have had extremely limited access to the building (due to construction) making it very difficult to get in and set up their classroom. Twitter: www.twitter.com/AHSD25Patton Facebook: www.facebook.com/AHSD25Patton I hope everyone enjoys the last weeks of summer, and we look forward to seeing everyone on the first day of school. Sincerely, Eric Larson Principal, Patton Elementary School Welcome Message From the PTA 2014-15Dear Parents,
I wanted to provide you with a few updates as we have now entered August. The front office will officially be open on Monday, August 4th if you have any questions or need to drop off registration paperwork. The parking lots will be closed on Monday as there will be a crew working out there. If you do need to stop by the school, you will need to park on the street. As I'm sure many of you have noticed, there are still some construction projects happening around the school. The most obvious is the roof work, which is scheduled to be completed over the next couple weeks. Additionally, Patton is scheduled to have asbestos abatement work done. Below is some information from Michael Brown, the facilities director for the district: "Asbestos abatement work is scheduled in various areas of Patton School this summer to facilitate renovation work. The works is scheduled to start on August 11, 2014 and be completed by August 19, 2014. The work will be completed by Kinsale Contracting Group, Inc, professional asbestos abatement contractor that is licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health. School District #25 has also retained an independent third party environment consulting firm, ENVIRON International Corporation to oversee the project, conduct daily air sampling, and ensure that the work is performed in the accordance with applicable rules and regulations. A representative of ENVIRON will be on-site full time, monitoring the asbestos contractor's removal operation. During the removal process, the regulations of the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will be followed. The asbestos abatement areas will be cordoned off physically from the remainder of the building and warning signs will be posted. We appreciate your cooperation and patience with this anticipated project. If you have any questions or require additional information, please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Michael Brown" I look forward to seeing everyone, and hope that the next few weeks of summer are great for you and your family.
