Hello Patton Community, It has been great getting a full week of school in. It seems like a long time that we have been in session for five consecutive days. Below are your updates and I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Pick Up & Drop Off (a copy of the email sent out earlier) There are many things about Patton that could be considered impressive, remarkable, or even unique. One aspect that I would like to highlight is our traffic team made up of Patton parents who selflessly give of their time. This volunteer spirit is very indicative of the Patton Way and these individuals are great visual reminders of the importance of serving others. These individuals brave the cold, even in subzero temperatures to ensure that our children arrive to school safely. Especially during colder months when more parents are driving their children to school, it is imperative that drivers are patient and follow the rules for pick up and drop off. Additionally, traffic flow is determined in part by individual drivers following the directions of the volunteers. The vast majority of drivers are patient and respectful, and there are at times a few who may be frustrated or in a hurry. My encouragement to everyone (myself included) is live out the Patton Way during pick up and drop off by modeling patience and grace, but I would also encourage you to possibly take it one step further. If you happen to be stopped in the drive and there is a volunteer nearby, roll down your window and give them a smile and a thank you. Behaviors, both positive and negative are learned in part by the observations of our children, and saying "thank you" is a good skill for anyone to practice. As good as it feels to receive a compliment, it also feels good to be the one who gives it. PARCC Testing PARCC Testing begins on Monday, March 2 for students in grades 3, 4, and 5. Below you will find the schedule for when testing will occur throughout the days for each individual class. Patton teachers have been working with students to prepare them for the process of the test as it will look different from the ISAT test taken in years past. If you are interested in learning more about the PARCC Assessment, you can go to the PARRCC for parents link found here. What's Happening in the LMC? Art Institute Trip Our fourth grade students were treated to a wonderful trip to the Art Institute on Wednesday, led by Ms. Weres and the fourth grade staff. Below are a few images from the trip.
Movie Night I'm looking forward to seeing all of our students at our movie night this evening! BIG HERO 6! Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who are putting together this wonderful event for our students. 6th Graders For A Day Our fifth grade teachers had the opportunity to spend an entire day at Thomas Middle School to be a sixth grader for a day. The goal of the experience was to have a current understanding of what it is like in sixth grade so that we can better help our students transition to the middle school. The day was a great success and we will use the information we collected with our fifth graders as we get closer to the end of the year. TWEETS OF THE WEEK
Hello Patton Community, I hope everyone was able to stay warm this week. Mother Nature has not been very friendly so far for 2015. Below are your updates, and as always, you can find your PTA updates here. 5Essentials Survey Parent input is vital in a school environment. Through the 5Essentials Survey, you are able to express your thoughts and views about the school as whole. In any survey situation, the more who participate the more useful that data becomes. Currently, only about 1/4 of the parents have completed the survey. Please take time to share your thoughts by completing the survey found here. PARCC For parents interested in learning more about PARCC, there are many resources for parents that can be found at http://www.parcconline.org/for-parents. Our testing for the Performance-Based Assessment (P.B.A.) will begin on March 2. Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 have already begun preparing for the format of the test as it will look different from the ISAT test they may be used to. Thank you... To those who ate at Noodles & Co. this past Monday. Patton School and the PTA greatly appreciate your support! Patton Press is Here! TWEETS OF THE WEEK
Hello Patton Community, I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. Here are your weekend updates! Join the P.A.K. Team! This week we kicked off our kindness campaign, called Patton Acts of Kindness. Students document acts of kindness that they either observed or were the recipient of on paper chains that are proudly displayed in the classroom. Those chains will eventually be connected to our P.A.K. banner in the commons and will hopefully circle around the school. If you haven't seen the kick off vide, please watch it below. Also, if you as a parent observe an act of kindness and would like to participate, please feel free to join us by filling out a slip of paper as well.
Thank You PTA! Thank You PTA Cultural Arts Committee for the wonderful presentation of Ben and Me. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learned a lot about Ben Franklin at the same time. Win-win. 5Essentials Survey If you haven't taken the 5Essentials Survey, please do so very soon.
