Hello Patton Community, We had a beautiful day for our Halloween Parade! I'll upload a few of the images later in the weekend and pass on a link to those for you to see if you weren't able to be here. To our parent volunteers... THANK YOU!!! I am always amazed at how incredible our parents are. Below are a few updates. We hope you have a safe and happy Halloween! Sincerely, Eric Larson Have a fun, safe Halloween! A Message From Student Council Beginning Monday, and running for the following two weeks, the Student Council will be sponsoring its annual “Pasta for Pennies” fundraiser, raising money to help cure leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and Hodgkin’s disease and to improve the lives of patients and their families. Your child should come home with an individual collection box and a note explaining the drive and its purpose. Please help them collect any change from around the house, and bring in over the next two weeks. The classroom raising the most will win a pasta luncheon sponsored by Olive Garden. The generous Patton community has helped to make this one of our most successful annual events! Thank you in advance for your support of this terrific organization. -The Patton Student Council Box Tops for Education As a school we have been blessed to have Mrs. Cosley organize all of the Box Tops for Education efforts for the past 6 years. We would love to pass the baton to a new parent, and Mrs. Cosley would be happy to train someone to begin taking it over. Please consider emailing her if you are interested at [email protected] - Thank you Mrs. Cosley for your many years of service! Author and illustrator Ethan Long will visit Patton and present to students the afternoon of November 18th! Mr. Long has written fun and engaging fiction with terrific illustrations that can be read by our younger readers but appreciated by our intermediates. Some books that you or your students might know are Fright Club (our newest), Wing Bros. Math Spectacular and Manana Iguana. He is also the illustrator of the Stick Dog series. Some of his other new titles will be in the LMC soon. We will provide an order form for his books this week and he will personalize them for students who purchase one! You can read more about him at http://www.ethanlong.com/ Extra! Extra! Read all about it--the First Issue of Patton Press is Here! In a nutshell:
Hello Patton Community, As we approach Halloween weekend, we wanted to take a moment to share how you and your children can "Be a D25 PAL" for our friends, young and old with food allergies. (PAL stands for Protect A Life.) Ways that you can be a PAL include:
On Wednesday, your child will be given a flyer that contains the information listed above. Additionally, they will receive a teal bracelet (teal is the color for food allergies) to wear. All elementary students across the district will be receiving the same message and bracelet. The Teal Pumpkin Project is a movement where homes paint their Halloween pumpkin teal. By painting your pumpkin teal and placing it outside your home you are indicating to kids and families that you are distributing non-edible treats that are safe for kids who have food allergies. This is a fun and safe way to ensure that everyone has a great Halloween experience. The Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) organization has great resources for parents, kids, and families if you'd like to learn more about what it means to Be a PAL. I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Halloween.
Hello Patton Community,
I hope everyone had a great week. Below you will find some updates, information and a form that needs to be completed. Have a wonderful weekend! Eric Larson HALLOWEEN

Outside Fundraisers
Patton has always been and will continue to be an incredibly supportive and generous community. Here at school we run several fundraisers for great causes throughout the year. Not only do students and parents participate, but teachers participate as well. We also recognize that there are fundraisers that are happening outside of the school, whether it be to support an athletic organization, a group or club, or to raise funds for those in need. If your child is trying to raise funds for outside organizations, we respectfully ask that these fundraisers remain outside of school and not be brought in the building. SAVE THE DATE!

TWEETS OF THE WEEK
Each week Patton pushes out a significant number of tweets and it is challenging to pick just six. So this week, I have embedded Patton's Twitter feed and you can scroll through all of our tweets! This is a live feed that is updated whenever the school Tweets.

A Note From the Social Worker
The colder weather is approaching and many of you are looking through your winter supplies (coats, hats, etc.). The economic times continue to be tough and you may find that you are unable to purchase new items this year. I just wanted to take a moment to remind you that I have some extra winter items here at school. Feel free to leave me a confidential message on my voice mail if you find that you may need something this winter season.Barb Donahue, LCSW 847-506-5927 CLUB OPPORTUNITIES

Fifth Grade Musical
Give our regards to Broadway! This spring, 5th grade will be rehearsing and performing their very own off-off-Broadway production for Patton's families and community. We are excited to announce that this year's 5th grade musical will be... (drumroll please) Walt Disney's The Lion King!
International Walk to School Day
Thank you to the many families who took our walk to school challenge. We decreased our average traffic flow by 35 vehicles! Great job everyone!
Historical Reenactment - 5th Grade
Below are a series of pictures from the historical reenactment that our fifth grade students participated in. Your children were exposed to a variety of situations that individuals might be facing 1776. It was a great experience for everyone who attended!
SPARK
Our students in third, fourth, and fifth grade were treated to an assembly where parents and community members came to talk about their passions, interests, and hobbies. Miss Maksymec organized the event and was a huge success. If you would like access to a playlist of all of our presenters, it can be found here.

Hello Patton Community,
I hope you and your children had a great week! Below are a few updates for you to look through. As always, if you want to see what's happening at Patton on a day to day basis, please follow us on our Twitter or Facebook feeds. Have a wonderful weekend! Eric Larson LITERACY THOUGHTS
Last night I attended the Literacy Presentation for parents that was hosted at Greenbrier Elementary School. I wanted to highlight one slide in particular about the home/school connection and how you can help support your child as a reader. The steps are simple but if you are looking for ways to start conversations about reading with your child, the points below could help get you started.
GLOBAL READ ALOUD
In connection with Global Read Aloud Ms. Ricci's 4th grade and Mrs. McLoone's 2nd grade each held a "Mystery Skype" to meet the classes they will be communicating with for their respective books. Each class asked a series of geography questions and gave a few hints until they located each other. We found one in Michigan and the other in Ontario, Canada!

PICTURE DAY
A friendly reminder that Monday is picture day. Please try not to wear green shirts as that may cause a little bit of a problem with the digital photographs. We look forward to seeing all of the smiling faces!
NO SCHOOL - FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9
On Friday, October 9 there is no school for students. Teachers will be present at the building and will be receiving training on the new literacy curriculum as well as pouring over the most recent assessment data to try and meet the needs of all our learners at Patton.
