Valentines Day Schedule
Meet Patton's PE Student Teacher
My name is Paul Johanssen. I am completing my final semester at NEIU. This spring I will receive my teaching certificate for K-12 Physical Education. I am currently student teaching at Patton under the supervision of Mr. Dolniak. Patton and District 25 believe in the importance of building and maintaining fitness. I am thrilled to have gotten such a wonderful opportunity and placement. Mr. Dolniak and I work together to create a positive experience each day. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience. I am proud to have grown up and live in the community. I am married and have two children who attend District 25 schools. I look forward to working with all the students at Patton and watching them continue to learn and grow!
Pick Up Information
If you are picking up your child at the end of the school day, we ask that as you wait in line along various nearby streets prior to entering Patton's main drive that you please refrain from blocking our neighbors' driveways. Thank you for your understanding and assistance!

From Your PTA: School Picture Day Patton's PTA has tentatively scheduled picture day to occur during the last week of February. Remote families will have the opportunity to schedule time for pictures at Patton during this week as well. The PTA is working on options for families who do not wish to enter the school, to ensure their childen are included in the Patton yearbook. Color Portraits has a strict safety process and we are excited to have them back for picture day! Stay tuned.
World Language - 5th Grade Students If you have a 5th grader at Patton, you should have received an email last week about choosing a language to study in middle school. The email contained log in information to register online. The registration has begun and runs through February 5th. Save the date! The 2021 ABC25 Get Burbed Challenge will be on April 24th! We will be providing both an in-person race (details to come on staggered start times and other safety measures) or virtually! Either way, get ready to support Arlington Heights School District 25 and the ABC25 Foundation! Stay tuned for the registration link, sponsor info and some REALLY fun events leading up to the race! You can follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Social Distancing Reminders As we continue our mitigation efforts to limit the spread of Covid-19, we are asking that parents review with their children the importance of social distancing. We will continue to remind and reinforce this with our students, and any help we can obtain from families is appreciated. We very much want to be able to keep all students healthy and have them be able to stay in school and not need to quarantine. Assessment Information Below you will find the information D25 recently sent via email regarding upcoming assessments. Patton Staff are currently conducting FastBridge Assessments for select students in grades K-5. You will receive notification if your child is participating in this testing. More information will be emailed to families next week regarding CogAT Testing. Please know that the CogAT assessment will not be offered remotely this year. Remote students will have the opportunity to come into school to test. Dear Parent(s)/Guardians(s): Throughout the remainder of this school year, District 25 students will participate in state and local assessments. The information obtained from these assessments will help our teachers design differentiated instruction as well as help determine who may need academic intervention and who may qualify for Advanced Placement testing. District 25’s guiding principles for our current assessment plan are to assess students safely, obtain a general snapshot of students’ reading and math strengths and needs while being mindful of the students’ and teachers’ instructional time. While we are limiting assessment this winter, our spring assessment schedule aligns with our assessment schedule from prior years. As we learned from administering district-wide assessments this fall, remote assessment can pose challenges for students and teachers alike. For those students who completed the MAP test in-person this fall, technology difficulties were far easier to problem solve, device connectivity was more stable, and student data was more reliable. For these reasons, District 25 will continue to foster a safe learning environment and, whenever possible, invite students into school to participate in most district-wide assessments this winter and spring. Specifics about District 25’s winter and spring assessments and testing windows are below: Please note that classrooms will participate in these assessments at different times throughout the testing window, so be attentive to the dates and times provided by your child’s school. Click here for our assessment calendar. If you have questions regarding these assessments, please contact your child’s teacher or school principal.
Sincerely, Amanda Czerniuk Assessment Coordinator Department of Student Learning Parent/Teacher Conferences The next round of parent teacher conferences are scheduled for February 11 and 12, and will be held via Zoom. We will use SignUpGenius as we have in the past to allow parents to sign up. The link to sign up will be emailed to parents and guardians tomorrow (Saturday) at 7pm. Please call the office if you have any questions: 847-398-4288. Lunch Service A daily cold lunch is being offered via Food Services. This meal is offered to all interested students, at no cost. (Funding is being provided by the USDA.) Each morning during attendance, teachers will find out which students are having the school-provided lunch. Parents/guardians do not need to fill out any forms or make any payments. The menu is below, and details are provided on the District website. Cold Weather Gear Please help your students remember to bring outdoor gear for these colder days, including hats and gloves. All students in grades 1-5 go outside for lunchtime recess, and it's much more fun when fingers and toes are warm! Student Council Food Drive Please see the flyer below for the upcoming Student Council Food Drive. Erin's Law Presentations Erin's Law presentations are currently being scheduled for each class. They will be held on Mondays beginning February 1st with Kindergarten, and run by our Social Worker, Barb Donahue. You will be notified when the presentation will be given to your student. For additional information on Erin's Law, please follow this link, which will take you to a D25 page. On this page you will find presentations, materials used, and opt out forms should you choose. 2021-2022 New Student Registration Is Open If you have a child you plan to enroll in kindergarten next year, pre-registration has started, please click here: District 25 website. Lunch Information With Step 4 beginning tomorrow we wanted to share an update about some of our process. Below you will see our lunch schedule. Some classes will be eating in classrooms and others will be eating in the Gym or Commons. Additionally, our recess zones will need to be adjusted tomorrow as well. The classrooms that will be in the field and should bring their snow gear include: Vincent, Johnson, Heisler, Cowen, Jedd, and Levin. Classrooms will continue to be assigned to zones for the lunch recess time. (Individual classrooms may choose to go outside for recess beyond lunch recess and will be allowed to go in the snow provided the student has the proper gear.) Social Distancing & Quarantining We have removed non-essential furniture from classrooms so that students can be spaced apart as much as possible. Social-distancing in each classroom varies based on the number of students participating in-person. In-person class sizes range from 10-22 students. Many in-person students may be seated less than 6 feet from one another during their school day given the number of students in various classrooms. We will continue to employ all of our mitigation strategies to help ensure a safe environment as we did during Step 3. With more students in the building, and the likelihood of more students being in close contact there is an increased possibility that a student or group of students may need to quarantine. Again we will do all we can to help minimize this. Families can help by continuing to self-certify on a daily basis and follow the recommended guidance from our health department as it pertains to travel. Drop off and Pick Up Information Our drop off and pick up procedures will remain the same. Given the fact that we are having more families pick up, please be patient when picking up students by vehicle. Also, please be mindful of our neighbors and not park in front of anyone's driveway as you wait to enter the main drive. The traffic team will continue to support a safe drop and pick up. If you have family members who are new to the drop off and pick up procedures, please feel free to share this information with them. Drop Off Graphic Pick Up Graphic
STEP 3 (HYBRID) CONTINUES NEXT WEEK Currently, the metrics for Full In Person (STEP 4) have not been met. This means that on Tuesday, 1/19, students will continue to follow their typical hybrid (STEP 3) schedule. The District Office will notify families when the metrics for Step 4 have been met. School Pictures Color Portraits has reserved tentative school picture days during the last week of February. Remote families will have an opportunity to schedule a time for pictures at Patton during this week as well. We are working on options for families who do not wish to enter the school, to ensure their child is still included in the Patton yearbook. Color Portraits has a strict safety process and we are excited to have them back for picture day. Stay tuned for more specifics in early February as we solidify details. Lunch Recess Information We will be adjusting our zones for lunch recess to allow different groups to play in the snow. If your child’s class is in the field, we ask that you send your child with proper snow gear. The classrooms scheduled to be in the field during lunch recess for next week will be Anderle, Goumas, Morkert, Cioni, Litberg, Copersmet, Jedd, and Levin. (For students without snow gear, we will allocate a space on the blacktop for them.) Lunch Service Beginning 1/19 A daily cold lunch will be offered next week, beginning on Tuesday. Parent/Teacher Conferences The next round of parent teacher conferences are scheduled for February 11 and 12. We will use SignUpGenius as we have in the past to allow parents to sign up. We anticipate the sign up will be released in the next week or two. We will send a targeted email about conferences as the sign up gets closer to provide you with further information. From Our Social Worker In the next several months I will be doing Erin's Law lessons in each of the classrooms. I will be doing them on Mondays (on Zoom, of course) to ensure that all the children in the class see the presentation. Please see your child's classroom schedule for that information. If you have questions or concerns please let me know. The books we will read and more information on Erin's law can be found on the District website. Have a great weekend! We will evaluate as the week goes on to see if we will make adjustments to the upcoming weeks. For students whose zones are on the blacktop, we still recommend they come to school with proper snow gear should the classroom go outside for recess and students want to play in the snow. The classrooms that are scheduled for the field for lunch recess this week are Cowen, Jedd, Johnson, Leigh, Levin, and Vincent. (For students without snow gear, we will allocate a space on the blacktop for them.)

Remote Families Only...
We still want your student(s) to be able to check out books from Patton LMC! Watch the video below to learn how to put a book on hold, and then if your student is K-3, check their LMC Seesaw class for a post with the Google login information needed. (4th and 5th grade students should know that information). Please only put books on hold that are "in." We will put student's hold requests on the table inside the front door for pick up about 24 hours after a request is made, unless the book is unavailable because it is "in quarantine." If this happens I will email you with alternate choices. To return, just drop in the crate on the same table within 2 weeks. Enjoy! Ms. Melamed, LMC Director ([email protected])

Keeping Winter Blues at Bay: Resources from our Social Worker
Parents and Families: I received an email from The Josselyn Center today that I found very helpful! Instead of 'lots of reading and nothing new,' this one was a bit different. I found it to have quick and easy to read points and they are not all the same as 'the ones we've all heard in the past.' Please check out the article here and reach out to me if you'd like more information like this. Also, you can go to https://josselyn.org/ for more tidbits similar to this one. I sincerely hope these help. Barb Donahue ([email protected])

Gratitude Message Board
Throughout the past few months, many of you have asked how families can support the Patton Staff and show appreciation for all they are doing for students. More than anything, kind words and expressions of gratitude mean so very much. We encourage you to show your appreciation of a teacher or other school staff member during this holiday season by providing a message for our school's new Gratitude Board! You can place an entry on this form to be posted on the Gratitude Board. It will appear on our school website throughout the holiday season and will be updated regularly. Thank you in advance for your support and appreciation of our Patton teachers!
Monitoring Student Illness
We need your help to accurately track student illness. If you have not already done so, please notify me if your child was ill or tested positive for Covid-19 over Thanksgiving break. And please continue to notify me as soon as possible, should your child develop covid symptoms or test positive for Covid-19 in the future. I want to congratulate our parents on doing such a good job keeping an eye on their students and keeping Patton in the loop. I have not had to send an ill child home for months! Thank you. Sarah Klancnik, RN (847-398-4288, [email protected])
Art Class Updates
Art Portfolios: If your student is not at school on their art day or is fully remote, and you do not have their 12x18” art portfolio provided by Mrs. Maloney, it is ready for you to pick up in the front office vestibule at your earliest convenience. The portfolio serves as a place to store projects, and there are art papers in it for future projects. Watercolors: If you are not able to get watercolors for your student for art, please email Mrs. Maloney at [email protected] with your student’s name and class, and she will put a set in the front office vestibule for you.
