Meet the Teacher Our teachers are very excited to have the opportunity to connect with the students and families via Zoom on Monday. Please be sure to reference the email from your classroom teacher for the Zoom link. When you log into the teacher’s Zoom meeting, you will likely be placed into a waiting room. Please try to be a few minutes early logging in, and the teacher will let you in at your time. Many teachers have back to back meetings throughout the entire morning, so it is important that everyone is on time. We hope you enjoy this special one on one session with the teachers as we head into our first day of school In The Beginning... A typical school year is launched with a gradual release of responsibility for students in all curricular areas that extends into the first several weeks of school as routines and procedures are being built and understood. Along with routines and procedures teachers work with their classes to build strong classroom communities, which are critical to student success. You are going to see that typical launch of a school year during the first weeks of school, but it will be adjusted for our remote environment. You will be given a schedule everyday, and you can still expect to see your children online with their teacher(s) for at least 2.5 hours (first through fifth grade) a day doing synchronous (live) activities and offline doing asynchronous (on demand) activities for the remainder of the school day. Please know that your children will be involved in these launching activities early on. We have been so appreciative of the kind words and support that has been given to us. We appreciate your flexibility as we navigate our remote environment together. We believe that while the year does look different, great things can and will occur this year! Supplies Sent Home - A Message From Our Tech Facilitator Please do not throw away the brown envelopes that went home with your student devices. The label on them contains your student's Google Username and Password. This is especially important for 3rd - 5th grade students. Students will need this to log into the Chromebook. Once signed into the Chromebook, they will use the single QR code to log into Clever which will have all the other apps they will need. The sheet with the multiple QR codes has directions on how to log into Clever. To clarify, the sheet of QR codes sent home with the iPad will lead to videos explaining the device and how to use the apps. The single QR code is the Clever Badge. Students will go to the Clever app and click the QR code option and scan your student's individual badge. Once in Clever, your students will be able to select on any of the apps without needing different usernames and passwords for all the apps. Thank you PTA! A special thank you goes out to the PTA for supporting and helping us with everything related to supply pick up. To putting dice and counters in bags, labels on calculators, stuffing envelopes, loading bags, and loading actual cars. This gift of time allowed for staff to have additional time to plan and prepare for the first day of school and remote learning. We are truly grateful for the wonderful partnership the school has with the PTA. "Repeat Information"Reverse Parade - 9/1/20, 8:15 am
One of the things we always enjoy about the first day of school is getting kids excited about school with an opening day assembly. Since we are fully remote, we plan to kick off the school year with a reverse parade, just as we did in the spring. We will be able to safely hold the parade and get school started on time. The directions below are similar to what was shared with families in the spring. We ask that you read and adhere to these instructions. SAFETY
DIRECTIONS
Teachers will be stationed along the sidewalk of the main drive, socially distanced from each other and your vehicles. We ask for your patience as cars are moving through the drive, and follow the above timeline to the best of your ability. Again, please make sure that everyone stays in the vehicle. We are really looking forward to seeing so many of you in person! Supply Pick Up: Friday August 28, 2020 Supply Pick will be hosted on Friday, August 28, 2020. We have organized our pick up by last name to streamline the process to the greatest extent possible. If you are unable to come during your assigned time, please reach out to me ([email protected]) and we will coordinate a time for you to get your supplies. Please see the video below for detailed directions for our pick up process, and THANK YOU for your flexibility and understanding throughout this time! It is very much appreciated!
Meet the Teacher Every student/family will have an opportunity to meet the teacher virtually on Monday, August 31. Please be on the lookout for an email coming on Tuesday afternoon/evening with the links to sign up. Each time slot is ten minutes, and families are to only sign up for one slot for their child’s teacher. The time slots will range from 8:10 am - 12:10 pm on Monday, August 31. This will provide everyone with a great opportunity to safely meet their classroom teacher. The teachers are very much looking forward to connecting with their students! In addition to new staff, we have a few teachers who have changed grade levels. 2nd Grade: Mrs. Stanton (previously 1st grade) 3rd Grade: Mrs. Johnson (previously 2nd grade) 3rd Grade: Mrs. Levin (new teacher) Teaching Assistants: Beth Hartig, Summer Sander, and Anna Toczycki Calendar If you follow this link, it will take you to an updated District 25 calendar that highlights all of the updates to the school year. Daily Schedule: Our goal is to create an engaging and enriching day for each of our students. Students will be following their daily schedule with a mix of synchronous and asynchronous teaching/learning activities. All K-5 teachers will use Seesaw as their primary launch point for digital learning management, while Zoom will continue to be our primary video conferencing tool. This will create a consistent starting point for all our students. Teachers may use additional digital learning tools to enhance and extend their lessons. Typically, students will start off each subject area with synchronous instruction that will range from 15-30 minutes. Then students will transition into small groups or independent practice which will be a mixture of synchronous and asynchronous experiences for the remainder of the subject. Below you will find a sample schedule to help visualize the flow of a typical day. Your child’s teacher will share their specific class schedule at the beginning of the school year. They will also help students set up home routines and schedules as well as establish and practice norms of remote instruction and participation. Below are two sample schedules. (Each grade level will have different timing, and there will also be a schedule for PM kindergarten.) |
