Patton’s 2021 Walkathon will have a completely revamped look, ready for safety for all. We have renamed this year’s event the “Walkabout” as it will involve walking about and around the Patton neighborhood! Here are the current details:
This year, Make-a-Wish has shared with us the story of Amani, from Arlington Heights:
Ten-year-old Amani from Arlington Heights is as fearless and outgoing as they come! Amani loves arts and crafts, singing along to her favorite tunes and never says no to an outdoor adventure. So, after being referred to Make-A-Wish® Illinois by her grandmother, Amani decided to combine all of her favorite hobbies in a fun-filled trip to Disney World!
Shortly after her second birthday, Amani was diagnosed with a rare disease. Even throughout all of the hospital visits, doctor’s appointments and arduous procedures, Amani never let her condition steal her sparkle. She continues to walk through life with her head held high and a smile so bright that it could light up any room she enters.
Once Amani and her family landed in Orlando, they were immediately met with the warm Florida sun and cool December breeze. Amani could hardly wait to embark on her greatest adventure yet at The Happiest Place on Earth! The group’s itinerary included a 3-day pass to the Disney parks, a 2-day pass to Universal Studios & Island of Adventure as well as a trip to Sea World where Amani partook in a special dolphin encounter. If Amani’s beaming smile was any indicator as to how her wish week went, it’s safe to say it was an unforgettable experience that is sure to last a lifetime. Following her wish, Amani has all of the strength and inspiration she needs to keep reaching for the stars!
Our efforts continue to grant wishes like those of Amani!
- After school, kids will go home (or to CAP) as usual.
- We will have SIX stations set up around the Patton neighborhood, from Hasbrook Park to Virginia Terrace Park.
- From 4:00-5:30, families can walk from their home to visit as many stations as they can, seeing special themes as they visit each one. (Because families are walking together, there is not a sign in/out process as we've done in the past.)
