Good Afternoon Patton Community, This is been quite a busy week as students have been going through different testing sessions so that we can find out more about them as learners and how we can best support them in the classroom. This weekend update has two updates in one, the Patton Update, and the PTA update. Check out some of the tweets of the week to see what is happening in some of our classes. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Back To School Bash this evening. It looks like the weather is going to hold out for us! Thank you to the PTA for being flexible and rescheduling this great event for our community. Below are just a few pieces of new information to share with you. Bears School Spirit Day - Monday Student Council is sponsoring a Bears Spirit Day in honor of the Bears vs. Jets game. Please show your Bear pride by wearing orange and blue. School Start TimeThis is just a reminder that the doors to the school open at 8:55am, and instruction begins at 9:05. We know that there are times when families run late for a variety of unplanned reasons. As best you can, please try to have your child dropped off early enough so they can enter at 8:55 with their classmates. Kindergarten and First Grade Assessment Information Night The kindergarten and first grade teachers are putting together a presentation on our literacy assessments, what the data means, and how we use it in the classroom. Stay tuned for a date in the near future. All Kindergarten and First Grade parents will receive an invite when a date has been established. It will be an evening activity that will most likely have a 7pm start time to maximize parent attendance. Social Service Club For those students interested in joining the social services club, please check out the video below. If you are interested in joining, please click on this link to sign up: http://goo.gl/Hvknrb Information Regarding PARCC & ISAT Below is a short overview from the Technology and Assessment Office regarding PARCC and ISAT: Dear Parents and Guardians: As a reminder, the Illinois State Board of Education has adopted a new assessment of student achievement developed by the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC). This will replace the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) that has been used for the past decade. PARCC will require more testing time than ISAT as the PARCC assessment will have two testing windows compared to one for ISAT. The two sessions for PARCC include the Performance Based Assessment (PBA) and the End of Year Assessment (EOY). During each window students will be assessed in reading and math although the test will have different question types and methods. As a district we continually review our assessments to help provide meaningful instructional information for our staff and parents as well as for the amount of time required for student participation. We will continue to communicate developments regarding PARCC over the next several months.
