And remember, this link is available at the bottom of every PTA Post and PTA email. Spring Thought - PTA Walking School Bus Committee Forming Walking to school offers students and families exercise, fresh air, and the great feeling of being outdoors. Now that spring is on the way, the Patton PTA is forming a committee to promote National Walk To School Day (October 5th, 2016), Walking Wednesdays, and to investigate the possibility of reviving the “Walking School Bus”. This is a brand new group which will require a committee chairperson and several people to help start a program from scratch. If you understand the value of living so close to our school, consider emailing [email protected] to let us know you’d like to help bring this concept to life! Introducing A New PTA Post Feature - The Weekly PTA Committee Highlight Patton PTA committees offer many diverse programs and activities to the students at Patton School. There are so many, in fact, that it’s hard for new Patton families to get a handle on them all. To help, we will be highlighting one distinct committee in each week’s Post to offer insight as to what these committees do and what volunteer opportunities exist. Take a look - there may be something that interests you! PTA Committee Highlight - Volunteer Coordination Committee The Patton PTA is run completely by parent volunteers, people who must be made aware of the positions and opportunities available. Our Volunteer Coordinator addresses this issue using Google Forms to collect names of parents interested in specific jobs. The Coordinator will periodically send out a link to the Google Volunteer Form which includes all PTA activities and positions available, allowing parents to pick the events in which they are interested. Parent responses are captured in a spreadsheet so that the names of potential volunteers may be forwarded to the appropriate event coordinators. Additionally, the Volunteer Coordinator may choose to send out event-specific requests during the year. A Volunteer Coordinator should be organized and have a sense of scheduling so they may recruit helpers in a timely manner before events. This critical committee has traditionally been run by a single chairperson, but it can be handled by more than one person if there is interest. If you are interested in becoming involved as a Volunteer Coordinator, please send an email to [email protected]. Arlington Heights Council of PTAs Scholarship Program Do you know a high school senior who attended elementary school in District 25? Then you should know about the Arlington Heights Council of PTAs Scholarship program, which offers college or other post-secondary academic scholarships to graduating seniors. Since its inception in 1973, the program has awarded more than $364,000 in scholarships. To be considered for this achievement scholarship, a graduating high school senior must:
Thank You Again, Traffic Team Volunteers! Thank you also to Patton parents for your assistance in obeying the laws and being mindful of traffic etiquette while driving at school. We do very well when we all work together! ***Our Next PTA Meeting is Tuesday, March 8th at 9:15 AM in the Art Room*** Questions or Ideas?
