Box Tops If you have any Box Tops at home, please send them to school by February 17, as the submission is due very soon. Each one is worth 10¢ and they can add up quickly if we all participate (Patton Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Co-workers)! Last school year, we earned $1,057 for our school from Box Tops and we used the money to help fund the grade level musicals as well as a few other programs. Box Tops can be found on hundreds of products from brands such as General Mills, Ziploc, Land O’Lakes, Kleenex, Boise, Hefty, Nature Valley, Reynolds, Green Giant, Annie’s Old El Paso, and Yoplait. For more information on Box Tops, including a complete list of participating products, go to boxtopsforeducation.com. Be sure to sign up as a member (it’s free!) so you can check out our school’s earnings details and get access to coupons and bonus offers. Second Step - Social Emotional Learning Just as we have standards for academics, the state of Illinois also has standards for social emotional learning. Patton School is committed to using a research based program to address the social emotional needs of children. For approximately a half hour a week, classroom teachers follow a structured lesson teaching and addressing topics such as Skills for Learning, Empathy, Respect, Managing Emotions, Problem Solving and Peer Pressure. The lessons include videos, songs, worksheets and/or other activities. As we get into mid/late February, all grades will have completed Units 1 and 2 of the Second Step lessons!! The feedback has been very favorable as the teachers notice the children picking up on the vocabulary and using strategies on a daily basis.
